RULE THE WAVES

Named after one of the greatest heroes in Greek mythology,

60m Perseus^3 seeks a new owner to conquer the seas and the superyacht regatta circuit.

About Perseus^3

Built by the award-winning Italian shipyard Perini Navi, and with naval architecture by Ron Holland, Perseus^3 comes with an impressive pedigree and an exceptional sailing performance that gives her the edge on the regatta racecourse.  This, combined with her successful charter record, makes Perseus^3 the ideal superyacht for an owner seeking regatta-winning capabilities without compromising on cruising comfort and style.

Perseus^3’s interior is just as impressive as her sailing credentials and her versatile accommodation arrangement makes her well-suited to charter.  Across her five spacious suites she can sleep up to 12 guests, with cabins comprising a full-beam master suite with a private lounge and study, two VIP doubles, and two twins with additional Pullman berths – all of which are ensuite and have integrated audio-visual entertainment systems.

On deck, guests can enjoy a swim-in-place heated pool situated on the expansive foredeck and her large flybridge with cushioned sun pads, sofas and a BBQ for casual dining, offers incredible elevated views – it’s a particularly thrilling yet safe place to sit when Perseus^3 is powered up in race mode!

On the main deck, more formal al fresco dining can be enjoyed in the cockpit, which is sheltered from the elements by a curve of glass which also encloses the exterior lounge.

Crew

Burger van der Walt

Burger van der Walt

Captain

Beginning his career in the industry 21 years ago, there is no surprise that Burger has a wide array of experience on many different kinds of sailing yachts. Originally starting out in the classic yacht race circuit, he skippered the very successful 1896 Gaff Rig cutter Avel, taking first class honours in many regattas. He has since moved towards the ever-evolving modern composite yachts, averaging 8-10 weeks of charter per season. Burger has sailed on the classic 65m Creole, Wally B, the 52m Perini Galaxia and 53m Perini Barracuda.  He also has captained Perseus^3’s sister ship Seahawk for two ocean crossings. Burger was the first crew member to join Perseus ^3 during her build in 2013 and has remained an integral part of the crew ever since.

Burger is a skilled navigator with a degree in Geography and Public Development under his belt. He has sailed the Mediterranean and Baltic seas as well as the Indian, North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on a variety of sailing yachts as both captain and crew.  Burger has a love for surfing and all sports that get him into the water. He is a proficient and patient teacher and after spending three winters working as an RYA Yacht Master Instructor in Cape Town, he is more than happy to pass on his knowledge.

Darren Rennie

Darren Rennie

Captain

Darren grew up in the small coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, where living on the coast for most of his childhood allowed him to develop keen interests in being on the water. After spending his gap year sailing the Atlantic after school, Darren returned home to complete a degree in Quantity Surveying. It wasn’t long however, before the Ocean called him straight back and he started his career in the yachting industry. He has since worked on a variety of sailing yachts over the past 11 years. Sailing on Perseus^3 for the last 3.5 years. Firstly in the role Chief Officer/Delivery Captain, and for the past 1.5 years as rotating Captain.

Darren is well equipped to offer a great relaxing holiday on board in the safest possible way.

Andy Hensman

Andy Hensman

Chief Officer

Born in the United Kingdom, Andy spent his childhood moving from one base to another following his fathers’ job, and it was in Berlin where he was introduced to dingy sailing and discovered his passion for being on the water. At the age of 17 Andy completed his first Atlantic crossing, by the age of 23 he had sailed around Cape Horn (the wrong way!) and completed Arctic, Antarctic, and Pacific sailing expeditions. After serving in the British Army for nine years, Andy dreamt about returning to the seas and basing himself in the Greek Islands.

Andy’s adventures working in yachting either on charter, cruising or racing has lead him to serve on some of the worlds most prestigious yachts including the 88m Perini Navi S/Y Maltese Falcon. A true sailor by heart, Andy is in his element under sail tweaking for optimal performance, and he is proud to have been a key member on the wining team in the 2018 Perini Navi Cup in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. With a cheeky smile and many jokes up his sleeve, a laugh is never far away when Andy is around.

Matthew Sherratt

Matthew Sherratt

Bosun

Matt grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, into a sailing family. He spent holidays cruising between the Vaal dam, Plettenberg Bay and on the family’s Beneteau in St Helena Bay. Matt went on to develop a fanatical interest in Triathlons and between his three years of medicine and a B-Com degree he qualified to join the South African team to compete in Chicago. It wasn’t long, however, before his love of the ocean called him back into the yachting industry. Matt left Cape Town on a 48ft catamaran and hasn’t looked back. He has recently obtained his Yachtmaster Ocean and working towards his OOW.

Rob Dodd
